Overview
Frequently named as one of the top ten (or dare we say the top? :D) dive sites in the world, Sipadan island is on the bucket lists of divers and non-divers alike around the world, due to her outstanding natural beauty and for being one of the richest marine habitats in the world.
Located in the Celebes Sea off the east coast of Sabah, Malaysia, Sipadan is an oceanic island formed by living corals growing on top of a volcanic cone, topped off with a luxuriant rainforest and surrounded by waters that reach as far down as 600 meters (2,000 feet) from sea level.
Of course, the true gem is what lies down below. Renowned for being home to an unusually vast number of green and hawkbill turtles, Sipadan’s underwater is also famous for its barracuda vortexes and possible sightings of leopard sharks, grey sharks and even hammerhead sharks if luck is on your side, not to mention its magnificent spread of colourful coral gardens.
