This is a normal path to gaining an Open Water Course

  • Day 1. Theoretical Knowledge

Knowledge development refers to learning about the basic principles and procedures in scuba diving. This is crucial; this understanding of aspects such as the effects of pressure on ones’ body prepares a new diver to manage behaviour underwater.

8.30am You start watching a 5 hour Padi DVD plus you need to answer all 5 knowledge reviews for each chapter in the book.

After lunch you try your equipment on and learn how to assemble and dissemble your gear.

At the end of the day with your instructor you revise the knowledge reviews and then do the Padi exam

  • Day 2. Confined Water Dives

At this stage, learners get their first experience in the water giving them more confidence underwater. By the end of the dive you will comfortable and ready for the next big step.

  • Day 3. Open Water Dives

Last, but definitely not least, are the dives in open water. With all the theory learned and practice dives, one is now knowledgeable enough to fully experience what it is like to be a scuba diver

Advance Open Water Course

  • (below is an example of the training schedule for the AOW)

Deep Dive: Explore deeper dive sites with confidence at depths of 26 – 28 metres/ max. 30 metres. Learn to manage your gas supply, go over buddy contact procedures, and buoyancy control.

Navigation Dive: Fine-tune your underwater observation skills and learn to use your compass more accurately.

Peak Performance Buoyancy Dive: Observe aquatic life without disturbing their surroundings. Improve the buoyancy skills you learned as a new diver and elevate them to the next level.

Fish Identification Dive: Identify fish families and their characteristics.

Search & Recovery Dive: Retrieve lost items that have fallen overboard or over a dock. Learn effective swimming patterns and using a lift bag for heavy objects.

  • Day 1. Advance course

Diver will complete the Deep Dive, Fish ID Dive & Search & Recovery Dive.

Discover the Underwater World through the Lens of a Dive Mask

Many diving institutions exist. To name a few – PADI, SSI, TDI, NAUI. Whichever qualification you decide to gain, they are all just brands to help you take your very first step to explore the wonderful marine life. All diving institutions basically teach the same methods in scuba diving. One of the basic qualifications available is the Open Water Course. This qualification gives you your license to dive anywhere in the world, whether it be in the shallow waters at 5 meters such as where divers do macro diving off the island of Mabul, a popular dive spot near world famous Sipadan Island, or at depths of 18 meters. Either way, a buddy system is a must, whereby divers are required to dive in pairs. This is one of the safety measures; an international standard, which can save lives.

In general, the Open Water Course involves three steps. It starts off with learning the theory of scuba diving, followed by training in shallow waters (which may be in a swimming pool or a shallow section off a beach). The final and most exciting step for learners is when they head out to the open water where everything is unexpected. There, new divers will get to explore the underwater world of colorful aquatic life, deep sea pinnacles and even sunken ship-wrecks. Having this qualification gives people the opportunity to explore a world which is not normal human territory.

One of the most popular diving certifications is with PADI. Alongside other dive institutions, dive lessons are provided in a way. Learning how to dive is not just about gaining a certification; in the process, one has a lot of fun. For some, learning how to dive is the first step to a new career. There have been many who have, due to sheer passion, gone on to much higher levels of qualifications. With deeper and stronger knowledge and experience, one is able to work underwater in a professional manner – becoming an instructor themselves, or becoming involved in commercial diving.

So whether it is out of personal interest in the wonders of breathing underwater, or as a move towards a new career path, is it important to follow proper procedures. There are casualties, most of which boil down to human error.

Diving with Enriched Air Nitrox
Semporna | Sipadan Island | Mabul Island

Normally people heard the word “Nitrox”; they find it sounded dangerous and deadly. Guess what… You have been breathing these gases since you were born. With Nitrox dive, diver can dive more safely and absorbs less nitrogen when scuba diving with air. The coolest part… diver able to perform underwater longer and get back the sea sooner.

What is Nitrox or Enriched Air?

Enriched air, or Nitrox, is a combination of nitrogen and oxygen. The air that we breathe in is comprised of about 21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen. Nitrox able to reduced fraction of nitrogen in your breathing gas.

What Diver Learn from Enriched Air Nitrox

  • Techniques for getting more dive time by using enriched air nitrox
  • Enriched air scuba diving equipment considerations
  • It allows an increase in no-decompression bottom time limits.
  • It reduces the potential for decompression sickness.
  • A reduced fatigue after a dive, resulting in reduced sub-clinical decompression sickness.
  • Enriched air considerations, including managing oxygen exposure
  • How to stay underwater longer.

Sipadan Package

Sipadan diving is famous for its population of both green turtles and the smaller hawksbill turtles.

Turtle Tomb is a special dive which every cave diver must see once in his life! Turtle Tomb is a cave system located after Turtle Cavern. There are several side tunnels and a small passage way near Barracuda Point.

Turtle tomb’s floor is about 8m wide and is covered with a thick layer of white sand and dust composed of numerous turtle skeletons.

The turtles couldn’t find their way out and died from asphyxia. This turtle tomb cave dive requires specialist equipment and an experienced local diver who knows the cave.
