2D1N Mt Kinabalu Package | Mount Kinabalu Climbing Permits

Padas River is situated in the interior southern part of Kota Kinabalu that is only accessible by train (used since the late 19th century in Borneo). Basically this trip will give rafter 2 experiences advantages, Excursions of Class 4 River and a ride in an antique train in this new millennium.

The adrenaline rush excursions covers a distance of this rather muddy 200 km river that holds 7 exciting and tough rapids.

The journey will first take 2 hours overland through the countryside to Beaufort town from there the adventure begins with 1½ hours train rides tracks along the Padas River that gives glimpses of the thrills and excitements to come. Upon arriving at the starting point, participants will be given safety briefing before going down the river.

After rafting, enjoy a sumptuous delicious BBQ lunch by the river and wind down with a sunset view of the return journey to Kota Kinabalu.

Another way of conquer Mount Kinabalu with via Ferrata which means routes that are secured by handrails, ladders, cables or lifelines. Starts at Mount Kinabalu Panar Laban Rock Face (approximately 3,300 meters) and reaches its highest point at 3,800 meters.

With special climbing equipments and experienced local mountain guide to ensure safety during the expedition of the via Ferrata

Day 1 – 5.00 am pick up from Kota Kinabalu and depart for Kinabalu Park, where you arrive around 7.00 am for registration and transfer to Timpohon Gate, the starting point of the climb. Trek about 5 – 6 hours to Panar Laban (depends largely on individual climbers group). The summit trails will leads you through lower montane, upper montane, sub alpine and alpine forest. Take your packed lunch provided along the way and enjoy the refreshing mountain cool air while eating. At 3.00 pm and arrive at Laban Rata check point and check into Pendant Hut accommodation and meet your Mountain Torq trainer at 3.30 pm, follows your trainer for a familiarization of the via Ferrata. 6.00 pm, dinner at Laban Rata Restaurant.

Day 2 – Wake up early at 1.30 am to continue climbing to the summit. Enjoy the breathtaking view of the sunrise at the summit of Mt. Kinabalu. Descend back to the Low’s Peak at 5.45 am. Meet with you Mountain Torq trainer at Sayat – Sayat Hut for Walk the Torq – Asia 1st via Ferrata. 9.00 am, arrive at Pendant Hut for breakfast prepared at Laban Rata 11.00 am, trek down to Timpohon Gate. Then lunch at Kinabalu Park before transfer back to Kota Kinabalu.

Kiulu water rafting, the river graded level 1 –  2, suitable for children under 12 years and moderately adventurous. Ideal for family outing and for relaxing trip, distance rafting is 15 kilometers when the water level is high, and 7 kilometers of excursions at normal water level.


Itinerary

9.00 am – Pick up from hotel for Kiulu River, located in Tamparuli town. Journey will pass through the countryside offering views of paddy fields and villages.

10.30 am –  Upon arrival, a briefing on the river and the various rapids, safety procedures will be conducted by the river guide

10.45 am – Start rafting down 9 km Kiulu River (Grade 1 – 2) and enjoy the exhilarating ride down the white rapids and get to know the various point like Body rafting, The Wall Rapid, Holy Smoke Rapid till the ending point.

12.15 pm – Arrive at the ending point. Change to dry clothing and enjoy the sumptuous BBQ lunch by the Kiulu River.

2.00 pm – Depart back to Kota Kinabalu.

Information and Journey to Mount Kinabalu

  • Kota Kinabalu City to National Parks (2 hours drive)
  • Arrive Registration Sabah Parks at 9.00 am to 10.00 am (20 mins registration time)
  • Mt Kinabalu 2D1N trekking starts from 10.30 am (depending early registration)
  • All Climbers must be accompany by certified Mountain Guide (Malim Gunung Guide)
  • All Climbers not permitted to proceed without Mountain Guide
  • Mountain Guide has the final decision at all situation during trekking Mount Kinabalu or Stop climbers. exp: misbehavior and health condition (not suitable asthma condition)
  • ALWAYS stay in a group
  • Never get reckless or try to be a show-off
  • Stay where you are if you are lost
  • Be extra careful with your steps during the wet season (slippery rocks)
  • Avoid heavy meal before climbing
  • More intake carbs and protein
  • Never rest too long on high altitude (just stand still)
  • Cover your nose (and mouth) with a scarf in windy condition on high ground
  • Make sure your feet and hands are warm and dry during the final ascent
  • When ascend, use small step which is more effective
  • When descending, try walking method sideways if your knee starting to feel pain
  • Do not bring valuable items
  • Fit Climber trekking duration (3 to 4 hrs) from Timpohon Gate to Laban Rata (6 km)

Mountain Hut facilities and Notes

 

  • We do not recommend climbers to rush to the airport on the same day of descent from Mount Kinabalu due to health reason, possible high chance that you might miss your flight due to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Bring extra Malaysian Ringgit Cash and NO Credit Card available at Laban Rata
  • Rental warm jacket available at Laban Rata (RM 10 – RM 20.00 per Jacket)
  • There may be Water and Power rationing during peak seasons
  • Laban Rata Resthouse OPEN for dinner 4.00 pm and CLOSED at 8.00 pm (No Food available after 8.00pm)
  • Convenient Counter Closed at 8.00 pm (Selling Beer, Soft Drink, Chocolate Bar…etc)
  • Gunting Lagandan Hut (Non Heated Rooms) Location 100 meters away from Laban Rata
  • Blanket, Bed, Bed Sheet and Pillow provided
  • Wake up at 1.00 am to 2.30 am to start climbing from Laban Rata to proceed the summit.
  • Descend from summit to Laban Rata for Breakfast
  • Depart from Laban Rata 9.30 am and LATEST departure 10.00 am (Estimate 3hrs to descend back to Timpohon Gate).
  • Expect to arrive Timpohon Gate LATEST 2.00pm
  • Last but not least… Safety Come First!!

Believe it or Not

  • Respect the mountain and ‘nature spirits’ even if you are a skeptic.
  • When you need to relieve yourself, tell the “nature spirits” (say aloud) that may be lying on your path to give way to avoid offending them
  • Don’t shout or make too much noise or you might disturb the “nature spirits”
  • When lost, talk aloud to the “spirits” to “set you free” and apologize for anything that you might have done wrong.
  • Never take what doesn’t belong to you from the Mountain – “Take nothing, leave nothing but your footsteps”

  • Binney Hay, Raincoat, Poncho (in case raining)
  • Just bring small bottle drinking water (refill water available at every rest point hut – 1km)

Nature explorers will simply love the Maliau Basin as it is an excellent site for jungle trekking and bird watching. At night, visitors may also trek for wildlife spotting.

Itinerary:

Day 1 – Turtle Island ( Lunch and Dinner )

Meet at Sandakan Airport upon arrival from Kota Kinabalu via MH 2042 at 8.10pm. Transfer to jetty for an hour boat ride to Selingan Island. Check in at Chalet and lunch at Selingan cafeteria. Free and leisure. You can swim or snorkel around island. In the evening, 2 species of marine turtles – the green and hawksbill come ashore here to lay their eggs. After dinner, witness the laying of eggs and the release of turtle hatchling to the sea. Overnight at chalet.

Day 2 – Sepilok Orangutan ( Breakfast and Lunch )

7.00 am return to Sandakan by boat ride and proceed to Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre. Orphaned and injured Orang Utan is brought to Sepilok to rehabilitate to return to forest life. Sepilok is a primary lowland forest, a fine showcase of Borneo’s remaining rain forest. Witness the feeding time from a platform in the forest. After feeding time, depart Sepilok for lunch at local restaurant. After lunch, transfer to Sandakan Airport for flight departure back to Kota Kinabalu via MH 2709 at 2.15 pm.
